October 2011, Tips, e-News and More!
Autumn is here!
Autumn seems to be the season of choice amongst many in our office. The morning air is crisp, but not
cold, it's getting dark earlier, but not before dinner, warmer clothes return to the closet but
there's no need for heavy jackets...yet!
Scarier than Halloween, cold and flu season is approaching. October is Influenza Immunization
Awareness Month. The flu is highly contagious and its effects can range vastly in severity between
individuals. Whether you choose to get vaccinated or not you can help stop the spread of the flu by
avoiding people who are sick, properly covering your mouth and nose when you cough or sneeze, washing
your hands frequently, avoid touching your mouth, eyes and nose and most importantly, staying home
when you are sick! More
here.
Use it or Lose it!
Your dental coverage may be based on the calendar year!
That means that your coverage maximums start over on January 1. Depending on your plan, your unused
benefits likely do not roll over into 2012.
This means:
If you don't use them this year they will go to waste!
If we haven't seen your smile in a while call us today to book an appointment or better yet you can request an appointment from the computer you are sitting at right now!
Have a safe and healthy month,

Happy Halloween! Brush Brush Brush.
Whether you have little ghost and goblins around the house or not, the lure of Halloween candy and
treats will be all around this month.
If you do have young ones, there are a few tips we can offer before their inevitable increase of candy
consumption.
For Safety:
Inspect any candy received during trick or treating adventures.
For Health:
Limit the amount of sweets they consume.
Ensure they eat a large, healthy meal before they venture out (if they are not hungry, they will be
less likely to sneak too many treats during their journey).
For their teeth:
Speak to us about dental sealants to offer increased protection for their teeth.

Baked Cinnamon Apples
Sugar, spice and spectacular are the three words that we use to describe the month of October. The
leaves are colourful, apple picking is giving way to pumpkin season and warming spices such as
cinnamon, nutmeg, and ginger capture our senses.
Let's face it; sugar is what makes October so popular!
If you need to satisfy your sweet tooth, there are countless alternatives to the empty calorie treats
October is renowned for.
This month we are featuring a delicious fall recipe for cinnamon baked apples! They are naturally
sweet, full of fibre and can be quite visually appealing when topped with maple syrup, brown rice
syrup, raisins and some nuts.
Baked, glazed apples sprinkled with cinnamon or ginger can be enjoyed as a dessert, a snack or even
for breakfast.
